I've been with this firm for about ten years, and things were getting to the point of diminishing returns as far as my continued employment there. I've been putting out feelers to other companies in my field for the past few weeks, and gave the HR person a heads up that I'd like to maybe work a bit less heading into the holidays. Well, today, they came back with their answer, and it's no, why don't you just not work here anymore. Awesome. Ten plus years of busting my ass and trying to do good work, and I'm basically shit canned. Thanks, WFG, you've made my decision much easier. Time to go work for my former boss, who was fired by the same employer about a year ago. The more life changes, the more it stays the same.

A cool car & a hot woman for your trouble.

The only advice I can give is the same I got 20 years ago.

If you don't move up in rank every three years you need to move on. The days of "retiring" from Company X after long and dedicated service are long gone.

Sometimes the only way to move up is to move on.

Sorry man. If they don't want you anymore, sucks for them. It sounds like the part you were working in is going down anyways if they've been laying people off for at least a year. Enjoy the time away from work, and good luck with the job hunt. Just try to think of it as an opportunity(no matter how stupid that sounds, and how many times you've heard crap like that, try to do it literally, and make sense of it literally. Once you can understand how true that is, you will be much happier.)and a chance to get a better job, that pays better, meaning more money for cars, right? Amiright? Or Amiright?

Thanks for the friendly chuck on the shoulder. But, I'm not really getting time off from job, as I'm literally going from a large office to my former boss, whose opened up a small office with just him, a secretary and a couple of other guys. I'm real estate appraiser, so it'll be nice getting back to a smaller company more focused on regional banks & credit unions, instead of the big national players that are such a pain in the ass to work with.

Well that's good that you've already got a job that it seems you will be happier at anyways! Good luck at the new job then!
